BPT Issue 19
Sculptors deal daily with design issues such as shape and form. These design characteristics are at the foundation of all three dimensional work. Photographers, too, have essential design characteristics that underpin all of our work. For me, two of the most important are colour and tone. The life of our images is as much drawn from the interplay between these two, as it is based on frame composition, subject selection or shooting prowess. In this issue we take some time (and pages) to look at these two pivotal parts of our media.
As always, we provide extensive coverage of these topics. Not just of the techniques, tips and tricks that you have come to expect from BPT, but we also showcase the work of photographers who exemplify inspirational colour and tonal control - see the work of WinterWolf Studios (page 20), John Doogan (page 14), our very own Peter Eastway (pages 60 and 100) and long time magazine supporter and colour master, Joseph Holmes (page 50).
Upon hearing about the new website (www.betterphotoshoptechniques.com) interested image makers flocked to the internet home of Better Photoshop Techniques. With a weekly average hit rate of well over 35,000 it seems that it definitely was a case of ‘build it and they will come'. The custom Photoshop CS4 panel is our most popular free download (from our online store) and for this issue, we have included another free panel. To coincide with the tonal control techniques (page 70) the new BPT panel contains single button creation of sophisticated luminosity masks, and yes, it also includes a video tutorial detailing how to use the masks to professionally tweak the tones of your photo.
Registered readers can download the panel for free. For those of you who aren't yet registered, this is also free (and painless) and only takes a minute. Click HERE to download the panel or register and download. Click for panel installation instructions.
Thanks to all the readers who made the journey to Sydney for PMA2009 and took the time to drop by the Better Publishing stand. It is great to know that so many of you enjoy the magazine.... almost as much as we enjoy bringing it to you.
As always, enjoy.
